The Story of Atelier Boanta
Nestled in the heart of Winterthur, Switzerland, Atelier Boanta began as a quiet passion project in my apartment. No lofty studio, just a corner of my living room filled with possibilities. Here, surrounded by the soft chatter of city life and filtered daylight, I, one maker with a passion for form and material, started experimenting with Jesmonite, beeswax, and plant-based materials.
Each morning, sunlight would filter through the windows onto a table scattered with pigments, wax beads, and 3D-printed prototypes. I watched as textures came alive under my fingertips, transforming raw ingredients into pieces that feel both modern and timeless. Over countless afternoons, I refined every detail: the weight of a vase in the hand, the way candlelight danced across a matte surface, the precision of a logo pressed into a print. Winterthur’s spirit, a blend of tradition and innovation, inspired every curve and contour. Friends would stop by, curious about the process, and soon those first simple creations found new homes across Switzerland and beyond.
Today, Atelier Boanta stands for more than beautiful objects. It is a living story of craft meeting conscience. I source beeswax to fill my candles with a gentle glow, choose Jesmonite for its eco-friendly strength, and harness PLA’s plant-based promise for prints that carry personal meaning. Every order, whether a sunlit vase in soft beige, a richly colored accent piece, or a candle infused with lavender, travels from my Winterthur atelier to your home, customized in color, scent, and even branding.
Welcome my narrative of “Crafted Elegance. Timeless Form.”! Each piece I create carries a chapter of this story, one that I am honored to share with you.
Meet the Maker
Hi, I’m Silviu-Ștefan, the person behind every piece you see at Atelier Boanta.
My journey began in Romania, where I first fell in love with the interplay of light, texture, and form, where I first fell in love with the interplay of light, texture, and form. Driven by a desire to help others, I went on to study biomedical engineering, designing medical devices that could save lives and improve quality of life. Yet even as I mastered precision, materials, and problem-solving in the lab, my heart kept pulling me toward creative expression.
For fourteen years, I danced professionally, exploring the poetry of movement and the power of shape. Those years taught me discipline, flow, and the subtle art of balance, lessons I now bring to every vase, candle, and decorative object I design. Everything you see here is self-taught. I haven’t followed a formal art-school path or joined an artisan guild. Each technique, from hand-mixing Jesmonite pigments to fine-tuning PLA print settings, I’ve discovered through curiosity, experimentation, and a willingness to learn from mistakes. Whether I’m hand-pouring wax in a unique vessel or coaxing an abstract curve out of a digital model, I bring the same engineer’s eye for detail, dancer’s elegance, and maker’s heart to my craft.
When you welcome an Atelier Boanta creation into your home, you’re holding a piece of my journey, from those first experiments in a small attic studio to the quiet sunlit workshop I now call home in Winterthur. Thank you for being part of this story. I can’t wait to see where our next chapter takes us.
